"I was constantly surprised by the beauty of Siberia and Mongolia, delighted with the people, the food, and so appreciative of all that I learned and experienced. I realled liked all the extra things that were done to enrich our experiences at each stop. What an incredible trip. Extremely well-organized and thought-out. I loved every minute!"

Brampton, Ontario, Canada

The Classic Route operates from Moscow to Vladivostok and in reverse. Spanning almost 6,000 miles of track connecting Moscow to Vladivostok, the Classic Route takes in the southern tip of Lake Baikal and the charming Siberian cities of Ulan Ude and Irkutsk, and travels along the Chinese border. Watch the cities and industrial centers give way to little villages and miles of wilderness.

Days 1-2: Moscow

Enjoy a one-night stay at a five star hotel in Moscow. Tour the classic sights of this 850-year-old capital city, including expansive Red Square and the venerable Kremlin. In the evening depart aboard the Golden Eagle Trans-Siberian Express private train.

Days 3-4: Kazan, Ekaterinburg

Make a stop in Kazan, the beautiful capital of Tatarstan on the Volga, where a kremlin wall surrounds the old town, and both Orthodox churches and minarets are found. Cross from Europe into Asia at Ekaterinburg. Here the last czar, Nicholas II, and his family were held under house arrest for months before the Bolsheviks executed them in July of 1918.

Day 5: Novosibirsk

Stop in Novosibirsk, a Siberian town that grew into a city due to its position on the Trans-Siberian line. Visit the massive Opera House, Lenin Square and the Ob River, flowing 3,500 miles from its source to the Arctic.

Days 6-7: Aboard Train, Irkutsk

Morning arrival in Irkutsk, the “capital” of Siberia. The tour includes the major sights of this cultured little city, including examples of the classic wooden architecture for which the area is known.

Day 8: Lake Baikal

A spectacular part of the journey today is spent winding through tunnels and around cliffs along the shoreline of Lake Baikal, the world’s deepest and oldest freshwater lake. Stop en route for a barbeque at the lake’s edge and continue to the village of Listvyanka. Visit the Limnological Museum, explaining the ecosystem of the lake.

Day 9: Ulan Ude

In the morning we arrive in Ulan Ude, capital of the Buryat Republic. Visit a village of Old Believers for a concert featuring local dancers and musicians.

Day 10: Sukbaatar

Dipping down onto the steppe of Mongolia, the train makes a stop in Sukhbaatar, near the Russian border. A city of 20,000, Sukhbaatar is an important stop on the Trans-Mongolian Railway.

Days 11-13: Aboard Train

Siberia at its most remote and mysterious unfolds before us as we follow the Shilka and Amur Rivers and pass through Khabarovsk. Final dinner on board the train.

Days 14-15: Vladivostok

Arriving in Vladivostok, enjoy a city tour that includes the principal attractions of this once off-limits Russian city. Transfer to a four star hotel for a one-night stay and enjoy a farewell dinner.

This trip also travels the same route in reverse, from Vladivostok to Moscow and along the same route in winter.

HOLY RUSSIA
OUR BELOVED LAND
THE BEST COUNTRY IN THE WORLD

Sir Winston Churchill once said: "Russia is a riddle wrapped in mystery inside an enigma". His words offer a remarkable example of the so-called Cognitive Dissonance.

Indeed: It is "common knowledge" in the West that the Russians have always been and remain to be dark barbarians, coarse and more than a little mad. The Russians' backwardness and submissiveness, weakness and aggressiveness are well "known" to all the civilized world.

Yet, if we indulge in the examination of some historical facts we shall soon come to discover that all the above said are absolutely false cognitions and wrong perceptions. For instance: How could those "barbaric and submissive" Russians defeat overwhelmingly the best armies in the world, that of Napoleon in 1812, and respectively that of Hitler in 1941-1945?
Terribly enigmatic, to say the least!

Moreover, how could those "backward and drunk" Russians, whose country was still lying in ruins in most parts after the terrible war, how could they manage to launch in Space the first in the world sputnik (an artificial satellite) on October 4, 1957? And soon after that eventuated even more breathtaking triumph in Cosmos – Cosmonaut Number One, Yuri Gagarin – who became the first man in history to orbit round the planet Earth on April 12, 1961!
Cosmonaut Yuri Gagarin - the first man in space Even more enigmatic and unbelievable.

It is especially so, if one would keep sneering at the Russians as at somewhat docile and intimidated dullards. But we Russians are not such pity creatures, believe me.

In this regard I recall my conversation once with an American friend of mine, a professor of Russian history from Alabama. He told me that they in America had been greatly astonished with the Russian sputnik and then with the first manned orbital flight of the Russian spaceship Vostok: How could those funny Russian "babushkas" and the drunkards produce such wonderful things?!

Sadly enough, there exists the extreme reluctance of the Western public to hear anything but ill of Russia. As a result – ignorance leads to fear, fear leads to fury, and fury results in another one invasion.

And if such is the case, the Russians would again recall the words uttered once by our great ancestor, St Prince Alexander Nevsky, in the 13th century, who said: "Whosoever shall come to us with the sword shall perish by it. Upon this stood and stands the land of Russia".
His words have proved to be absolutely true for all times; now and always, and unto ages and ages. Amen!

This website is meant to denounce and dispel most of the myths, stereotypes, prejudices and misunderstandings that are rife about Russia in the West. My aim is also to explain why Russia has always been and remains invincible, yet peace-loving. A nation like Russia, that has experienced so many disasters and invasions during its 1000-year-long history, needs and seeks peace before all other values.

But FREEDOM has ever been and remains to be of paramount importance for us Russians. Nothing can be higher than our country's liberty and independence.

So, help us God!

A View on Russia from Overseas

Here you can see a screenshot taken in March 2006 from a dynamic swf advertisement by the British TV channel More4, which was posted on the website www.telegraph.co.uk.

This is the plight of Russia as visualised, evidently, from the shores of the Misty Albion. The dynamic swf image had been posted on the said website only for a short period of time, just before March 20, 2006, but we were lucky enough as to manage to preserve it here as a screenshot.

IBM set to axe thousands in move to cheap labour abroad

IBM is planning to axe thousands of jobs in Britain, Germany and Ireland as part of a broader move to shift much of its workforce to cheaper outlets in eastern Europe, China, India and South America, the Observer has learned.

"We expect many job cuts in Ireland, Germany and the UK in the coming months," said Lee Conrad, national co-ordinator for Alliance@IBM, an American advocacy group for IBM workers.

IBM employs some 20,000 workers in the UK and 21,000 in Germany. "The jobs have already started going in western Europe," Conrad said, and there will be many more in the months ahead. "They are being reassigned to eastern Europe, India and China."

Pinoys remain top choice abroad, Labor chief says

MANILA, Philippines - Citing data from the Philippine Overseas Employment Administration (POEA), the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) on Tuesday said that many countries still prefer Filipinos in terms of choosing migrant workers.

According to the POEA, a total of 165,737 Filipinos left for work abroad in January 2009 as compared to 132,285 in January 2008 – showing an increase of 25.3 percent.

“This resoundingly affirms the sustained global preference for our skilled and semi-skilled overseas Filipino workers (OFW), and their productive role in staving off the adverse effects of the global slowdown in the greater portion of the world’s economies," said Labor Secretary Marianito Roque in a statement.

Moreover, he said that despite the global financial slowdown, the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) said that OFW remittances from more than 190 host countries worldwide reached more than US$1.265 billion in January 2009 – representing a positive 0.1 percent growth from the same period in 2008.

INDIA VISITING ROTTERDAM
At the 28th of October a high level event was held in Rotterdam to discuss the opportunities for Dutch organisations at the Indian marketplace.
Representatives from the corporate sector, municipalities and academia spoke with experts from India regarding the Indian diversity and the options this country offers to foreign companies. "Don't forget the Netherlands is among the largest foreign investors in India", mentioned Eric Niehe, former ambassador of the Netherlands to India. "However, in the 25 years in between my 2 postings I've seen great changes in Indian society. During my recent posting there was a strong self confidence coupled to an overly present energy: India is aware it is en route to become a global power."
The presentation of Melanie Martinelli and Guillaume Gevrey, 2 trainers from the Indian office of Rotterdam-based Expertise in Labour Mobility, made through Bollywood movies apparent how Indian society is changing and how strong this new national awareness is clearly influencing the Indian marketplace.
